Olympics Lego Creations - 26 August 2012

Diving Board (Summer) and Ski Jump (Winter) Olympics by Samuel

Here are my two creations that I made for the Olympics.  One is Winter Olympics and one is Summer Olympics.

The diving one - I like diving off high boards even though it is scary
sometimes.  It took ages but I made a really big tower with two divingboards.  The diver is wearing a wetsuit and she did a quadruple backflip and then landed.  The green board is the water, but I couldn't find any blue.

 

The skiing I did because when I'm away I'm going to be skiing and I like
doing ski jumps.  The two platforms are little mountains.  The guy is on
skis with black ski poles.  He's wearing a helmet with glass in the front
for safety because he's about to do two back flips followed by five front
spins.  He's wearing husky ski pants made of sheep wool and green alien
t-shirt.  He's a pro and came first at the Olympic stunts.

Soccer Stadium, Diving and Changing Room by Henri

There is a zombie who is the referee and he has a pistol as a whistle.  Mexico is playing England and one of the Mexican people has hurt himself - there is a hospital guy who is carrying him away.  There are two goalkeepers - one has a sword. There are 123 people in the stand.  

There are two people playing tennis in the next photo - but one lost his racquet and anyway he's really bad in tennis, he was just hte best in his country.  There are two boxing people - one is the world champion, but there's a hole in the wall on the champion's side because they want him to lose.  

 

 There is also a BMX guy - he has a pistol and dynamite on the back of his bike.  After the Olympics he's going on a mission.  And there are some horses, they do jumping and there is a jump with barrels and a bush jump.

 In my last picture, there is a jeep and a mini car in the carpark.  And I made a changing room too and a diving board - there is a person who is about to break the world record in diving.

 Olympic BMX Track by Noah 

There is a New Zealander and he is waiting at the ramp with the fence up - the race is just about to start.  He goes down the ramp, up the jumps, around, a bit more jumps and then under the finish line.  There is a grandstand with two birds and more than 40 people.  There are also two cars.  One is a red landrover and the other is a modified pickup truck.  

I also built a sliding door on the changing room. In the changing room there are two americans, 1 New Zealander and 1 other guy.  At the finish there is a trophy and it says "finish" on the ground.  I used the gold brick at the finish line too.

It took about 1 week to build it.  Club says we like the ramps and the way you wrote "FINISH", although it looks a bit weird.

 Mix-up of 5 Olympic Sports - Otis F

I made a spring track with a camera on the side that follows the 4 sprinters.   The javelin guy has 2 spears - if he gets it to the 4th metre sign, or goes over then he gets a gold medal.  I coloured the metre markers according to what medal the participant wins if they throw that far.
Cllub says: we like the way you coloured the bricks.

 I also made the high jump, and the weightlifter - he has a made-up weight and a platform.
The camera for the sprints made of two motors from my inflatable boat. The wheels are racing car wheels.
Club says: we like the cushion which is rounded on the bottom.  Creative.  Also, it's cool how the runners are bending down. 

Track & Field and Rowing and Diving by Grainger

In the first picture there is a guy doing hamer throw in the corner, there is a guy doing air rifle with a moving target and there are two girls who are from Australia and Mexico wrestling.

In the second picture there is somebody who's going to do a double flip with a triple twist in diving. There is also a guy doing equestrian and there's also somebody doing long-jump and he might beat the world record.  On the far end there is somebody doing 400m hurdles. And there is someone doing rowing and he might beat the Olympic record.  There is also somebody doing the pole vault and another doing javelin - he's the world's best javelin thrower.  The last guy is doing Archery and his last name is Wookie.


 This last picture is a mini-soccer pitch.  It is Ireland versus England.  Ireland is just about to score, but the goalie is going to save it - he's wearing a helmet.

Hurdles, equestrian and High Board FAILURE by Lachlan 

I made the hurdles - they're really high for lego men - at the end the runner has fallen over and banged his face on the hurdle.  He wins the bronze medal.
The next bit is equestrian, the horse doesn't like this rail and crashes.
The rowing boat - i had to use a laser for one paddle. The rower is lying down because the force of the water pushed him over. 

 I made this High Dive - the pool he lands in is a mm bigger than the lego man - very small so its pretty dangerous.  He does splash in the pool, but then falls over the side of the pool.  He has a scar on his face because of it.

Weightlifting and Javelin  by Otis W

The javelin  thrower is from America and the weightlifter is Mexican because he has a bushy moustache.  The javelin thrower is trying to throw his equipment as far as he can without stepping onto the line which belnds pretty well into the ground.  He'll have to stop one stud back.  The weightlifter is just picking up his weight and its 200lbs. 
Club says very impressive quick building.

Adventure Sports by Harry

On the 10metre diving board a lady diver is about to do a backwards tuck jump.  The man who just dived is swimming away.  His legs are underwater.  Club says: we like the splashes in the water.

 At the shooting  competition there are 4 guys.  The first one is a Russian - he's shooting. The second guy who will shoot next is a New Zealander, and he has red hair. The guy with the big hat is Chinese.  The last guy is an American.

The weird thing that is by the path onto the shooting range is a box of spare ammunition.

Club says:  We like how you made the target. 





Mahe Drysdale a New Zealander is in a  boat - he has just won a Gold Medal.

The Battle for Eternity by Grainger

My creation has a jail and they're trying to save the Ugly Princess who's in the jail. She wants to get out, like anyone who's in jail.  There's a pot of fire on the roof of the jail, because the bad guys will tip it on the good guys and then the good guys wont be able to do anything once they're on fire.  There is a guy guarding the treasure with a cross-bow. There are stairs that go up and over the drawbridge gate.  If i had more time I'd like to make a gate that could winch up.  There is also a weapon rack with spears and other stuff in it.

A Weird Mix-up n Time  by Harry

 First, I built a battle between the knights and the crusades. The Pakehas are arriving on New Zealand.  The Maori are in the island and Captain Dimwit and his mate Nitwit are in the boat.  This is a Sopworth Camel bi-plane from WWI.  The two pilots  have guns.

 The armoured car is from the Desert War in WWII.  It has a little periscope above the gun.  There is also a jet called a Tigerhawk from the Vietnam War.  And the middle one is a Howitzer Artillery Gun from the Korean War manned by a New Zealander. 

 And to finish off, I built a big Star Wars battle.  There are 9 battle-droids and 5 good guys.  The driver is a bad guy.  I did different eras bwcause I thought it would be interesting if guys from all different times started fighting each other and their opponents.
Club says:  This is pretty  interesting. 

 T-A-N-K by by Lachlan

I built these giant letters to spell tank.  They each have weapon stuff on them except the 'T' which has a skeleton, who is hanging upside  down with a gun.  Th e A has a little guy with a gun.  The N has a gun on top of an aerial.  And the K has lots of guns. 

I also made a little vehicle with double guns on the roof and a banger at the front that actually shoot. 

 Club says:  we like how you came up woith the idea for the letters - that's pretty creative.

3 Little Men by Otis W

I was trying to make a weird Chinese man as the good guy with this funny hat.  I made this snakehead guy who is an alien with a mine so  he could shoot at the guy with a chainsaw - he's on a speeder bike and he's a snakehead.  This other guy has a spider head, he's an alien too - he has a chain connected to the axe.  His weapon is twice his size.  And he's holding it by the bottom. 

Bank  by Samuel

There is a monster truck car which is flying in to the war and it shot a guy off his vehicle.  Then he's lying on the ground and he got run over by the car.  The other guy is trying to break into the bank's safe because there's more than a million dollars there.

The area where the safe is is getting destroyed - there are heaps of holes in the wall.  The motorbike by the side can hold the safe to getaway, but it got shot off the edge of the building by the rapid-fire guns.  There is a garage with a safe place on top. 

The Battle of Awesomeness by Otis F

I made a tower with a cannon and a guy with a lightsaber axe.  He has red and orange crystals to make the power for hte lightsaber.  There is a clone wiht two upgraded pistols.  And there's a wasp-droid - that's a droid that's a bit bigger than a normal wasp, and it has a heavy gunon top with an eye at the front and an eye at the back. The eye at the backm is also a spinner.  He lands on monsters and stings them.  There's a fighting wall, with guns on it and a missile.

This jet has a flap for the boosters - when the jet turns on the flap lifts u. There are two quad-cannons on each side.  There is an upgraded car with lots of different functions.

Medieval Village Attack by Luke & Henri

We built a Village where the King lives.

There's a King's castle and the King has a big shield and a really shiny sword. There are two doors that open up with a throne inside.  If you lift off the rood, there is a little jail. There's an archer on the roof - he shot the skeleton.  There are stairs to get up to the main castle.

There's a bar with lots of alcohol and food, where the people of the village go when they're tired.  But bad guys can't go there.  There is a blacksmith shop next to it - there is a brick that lights up to make it look like there are flames.  There is a carriage with a Knight pulling it, and the guy inside is screaming because he doesn't want to be pulled away.

There's a jail for villagers who go around robing or drinking   There is a watermill in the lake, and there's a high tower on top  for prisoners who are scared if heights.

There are old knights' quarters, with secret engines and an escape route.   You just kick the wall and you fall out an get away.

Club says:   we like the battlefield, and all the platforms you used to make the battlefields. 

Pistol by Noah

I saw a lego gun on youtube, and so i tried to make this pistol, which is different than the one on youtube because its coloured and it doesn't have a trigger.

Some bad guys are coming into this cafe to see if there is anything they would steal in there, like money.  The bad guys are wearing helmets - they came off their motorbikes and ran in the door The good guys came out of their hiding spots and started shooting the bad guys. There is a tank that drove in and smashed down the wall.   The fish and sausage have fallen out of the recycling bin There's a fire where a bomb was dropped. There's dynamite under the table that will blow up later.  The tank is going to blow up soon, when it drives over the dynamite. 

One of the good guys is hiding behind the counter trying to shoot the guy driving the tank.  The jeep is parked outside because its the good guys vehicle. The quadbike and the motorbike are for the bad guys.  

Club says:  we like the way you re-used your cafe. 

DECISIONS:

1   Next meeting we will make Olympics creations.

2  Grainger will bring afternoon tea for next meeting as punishment for throwing the nappy at Luke's castle.

CAFE CREATIONS 

Cafe Car Park by Otis Feasey

There are 2 seats in front of the cafe and a carpark.  There's a motorbike, a man is crossing the road (it's a New Zealand road so you drive on the left) and two girls are walking their puppy on the footpath.  A car is driving along, and there are some guys having a meeting at the table. 

 You can only see the front of the cafe.  There is a cat on the table and that's  a leftover can of soda which one of the guys is going to have.  The guys are star wars guys because those are the only ones I had.  

The club thinks Otis's cafe looks mighty fine - we'd like to go for lunch there.

Cafe by Grainger

My Cafe has a kitchen and there's  a chef who has a cauldron. He's going to make something in it.  Behind the waiter - the person who owns the cafe just got $100 because a customer paid extra because the food was so good.  They're eating pizza.  Behind the counter there is a drinks fridge with little bricks for bottles.
There's an oven, a stove, a shelf with food on it.  I lost my pizza shovel otherwise the chef would have it.
There's a backdoor for the chef to go outside and smoke if they smoke - but smoking is a bad habit.

I didn't have time to make a toilet, but I would have put it in the empty corner if I had made it.  I also think it needs a cabinet with food in it.
I left one corner open so you could see inside easily.

The club likes its cabinet and the drinks fridge/vending machine.  Also, the buffet window for passing food out is cool.

Scenes of an Oddball Cafe by Harry

Scene 1 - A demolition derby driver comes to the counter to order food from the oddly dressed man behind the cashier.

Scene 2 - Captain Panaka pulls the blaster on nute gunray while an unsuspecting street-cleaner gets ready to enjoy his lovely food, unaware that as soon as he touches the burger the table will flip up and his burger will fly up onto his face.  The burger is the trigger.  (it's a 'prankburger' says the club.)

Scene 3 - A chef waits by his pizza oven getting border wondering how much longer it will take for the pizzas and his croissant to cook. 

Club says: we like the way you have the pizza in the oven, and the colourful burger.  It's also interesting how the star wars guys are eating together, and the pirate and the soldier are friends.  Scene with the flip-up table and the prankburger is cool.

Aioli Cafe by Henry

There's a footpath at the front with a white door to get in. There are 4 tables - at one of them there's a guy having a drink and some chicken.  At the other table, there's a guy having a drink.  At the counter, the guy is filling up a cup.

There's a swinging door to get into the kitchen.  The chef has some food on a carrier thing, and there is a treasure chest that holds all the money.

There is a place to get drink refills.  The big sign says Aioli which means garlic.  There's a cash register too.

Club says: this cafe is awesome, we like getting the drink refills.  Also, its great how the walls stand up between the studs on the floor.  Using lego pieces to write the sign was awesome.

Football Cafe by Samuel

There's a special door to get between the cafe and the soccer field so you don't get hit by the ball.

I ncluded a kitchen, because you can't make food without a kitchen.  there's heaps of food, and a guy at the back who's serving a hamburger to a policeman.  There's a mailbox too, so the cafe can get mail like bills.

There are three tables, 1 big and two medium size. I made a car to go with it, but I didn't build a carpark.  So it just parks outside.


Club says:  we like the soccer field and how you built the lines on it.  We also like it that you included a toilet and you used a trashpak can as the rubbish bin.  The front door is really fancy.

Cafe by Noah

I made this counter and I used some of money pieces too as credit cards. At this table there's a guy in a jumpsuit.  These guys are drinking water and a milkshake.  People will like this cafe because famous people go to it.  There's a recycling bin by the back wall of the counter.  And there are two cash registers, but only one has a guy working because there aren't enough people  so the other guy went home.

There's a kitchen with a frypan and a pancake in it and a sausage and a bin for storing food.  The mini pot has a massive fish in it.  You can store food in the big pantry.  

There's a jeep parked outside.

Club says:  We like the front doors - three glass doors and an archway.  We also like how the walls  are decorated with stickers and posters.

Decisions this week:

1  Go and visit the Roxy Cinema lego model in Miramar, its amazing.

2  IB Lego Builders will raise $25 for a lego brick in the IB School Learning Hub counter.  We'll write iblegobuilders.blogspot.co.nz on it.

3  All kinds of war is the theme next meeting:  you can do Medieval wars, desert wars, Star Wars, cowboy wars, Atlantis wars, or even Mixed-Up Wars.

4  Next Meeting is in three weeks on 11 August.

Meeting #5 - Prehistoric Park, 24 June 2012

Time Portal - by Otis F.

The stegosaurus has been driven through the time portal by the carrot leaves.  It thinks they're tasty. There is a calming gun that calms down the stegosaurus.  But you have to shoot it right in its face, otherwise it won't work, because the poison calms the brain down not the dinosaur's body.  The gold dome gun is a dart carrier.  The two lights on the top make the circle and the dish at the back makes the portal.  I built the walls at the back so low because the time portal is so wide.  I built some parts of the walls like a cage so people can look in to see the dinosaurs. This is fantastic.

 Dino Escape - by Noah

This building has a table with a map on it so they know where to go on missions to get dinosaurs.  The jeep has a snorkel and two seats.   The guy called Nigel from Prehistoric Park has a net gun and he's shooting the net at a microraptor.  

The triceratops is eating leaves off the tree and this little dinosaur is running away. The reason I called this creation Dino Escape is because all the dinos have escaped.  There is a dinosucus in the water - its bigger than the T-Rex.  The T-Rex is trying to eat Nigel and the the Caelophaesus.

 On the second side there are people who are looking at the T-Rex while he is trying to butt them off.  He's trying to break into the Triceratops' enclosure.  The Triceratops is trying to butt a bush because he thinks its one of his friends.  The picture below is a Terror Bird. It has fangs and it has wings but it can't fly.  it has really strong legs.There are lots of different species of Terror Birds.  The meat goes in the bowl. 

Frondy the Fernosaurus Rex and Brancher the Leafodactyl - by Harry

These dinosaurs are a combination of three of my favourite things:  Lego, Dinosaurs and Nature.  Frondy is the tall one - he has two ways of killing his prey.  To kill tall dinosaurs he opens his mouth and lures herbivores to his mouth using his green glowing berry-like lure.

When they are close enough to bite, he closes his mouth and chews them up.
 His other way for shorter dinosaurs is that he lures them using the apple on his tail and when they are close enough to bite it, he slashes out at them with his poisonous fronds.

As for Brancher, he kills his prey by luring them with the brown bit on his tail.   When they are close enough to bite it, he draws his tail back and WHACKS them so hard that it kills them instantly.  They are mostly made out of leaf-like bits of skin. 



Tracking Down Dinosaurs - by  Henri & Grainger -

We've made two jeeps and they're parked ont he concrete, spying on dinosaurs that are eating their food.

 Prehistoric Fish - by Grainger
This fish has lots of white teeth and its about 10metres long.  It eats smaller fish.  I whipped it up in 10 minutes.  Quick model.

 Enclosure - by Henri & Grainger

There's a T-Rex about to eat a guy. The guy is bending down to eat his turkey.  The gate is on a winch for lifting up.  It has a chain and a devicefor swinging across the chain on - that's to keep out of reach of the T-Rex.  It's got a tranquiliser gun, a table for putting maps on to find dinosaurs, and a camera for taking pictures of dinosaur footprints when they're tracking them down.  There's a big axe that's a booby trap for falling on escaping dinosaurs.  There are also snakes and skeltons in the jail area. 

 Dinosaur Capture Park - by Lachlan

 The treehouse has torpedoes.  Two have traditional torpedoes and the three torpedoes have claws, to catch the dinosaurs if they escape.  The rope hanging down is for the guy in the green army top to  climb up. The brown baskets at the top of the pole are to hold the weapons.  One person sits in  on of them and when you push the button it shoots the net and it catches the dinosaurs.   The tall pole balances because there's a rod down the middle.
There is a security camera in the boulder - the boulder can open up and spin around to check out 360 degrees of the park.  Its to make sure noone comes in to steal the dinosaur eggs.  The truck patrols the perimeter.  There is a lot of equipment to protect the dinosaurs.

 Pteradactyl Terror - by Otis W.
There is a zip line to carry provisions from high up down to the base.  There was a security camera on the pole but it fell off.  The zipline carries doiwn the tranquiliser gun - my sister helped me.   She put a minifigure stand on the back for stability.

 Lulu and Willa
We made this truck with meat inside it. They will feed the dinosaurs.  The biggest dinosucus will get all the meat.  The big one's name is dino-hero.

 I play a game online called Tanki Online. It shoots out of is Twins and the bottom is Titan.  The Twins shoots out plasmaballs.   The paint colour is Flora.  I'm going to make a bigger version soon.
